HOUSE EXPANDS SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES;

WORKS TO KEEP YOUNG PEOPLE IN IOWA

Des Moines, Iowa – Small businesses and entrepreneurs will get more support from the state under a new bill approved by the Iowa House on Tuesday.  A new fund will also help young Iowans land jobs in key growth industries like advanced manufacturing, biosciences and information technology.

“In today’s tough economic times, we must continue to focus on the creation of good-paying jobs and help launch small businesses across Iowa.  The new innovation fund will make sure we have the resources necessary to give entrepreneurs a boost and match young people with jobs in key industries like renewable energy and information technology,” said State Representative Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids.

Senate File 142 creates the Innovation and Commercialization Development Fund with $3 million targeted to help Iowans launch small businesses and expand internship and training opportunities for young people in an effort to help them find a job in Iowa.  The bill also cuts red tape to make more state tax credits available to businesses.

The bill now goes to the Governor.
