OLSON ENCOURAGES IOWA TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS

Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids encouraged Iowans to honor and recognize outstanding Iowa teachers by nominating him or her for the 2010 Teacher of the Year award. The nomination deadline is April 15, 2009.

“We know there are thousands of teachers across our state that go unrecognized each day for their hard work and dedication,” said Olson. “I encourage parents, students and all Iowans who know outstanding educators to nominate them for Iowa Teacher of the Year.”

The award offers the opportunity for an Iowa teacher to be recognized for his or her outstanding work in motivating, challenging and inspiring students and the learning experience. The selected teacher will serve as the Iowa Ambassador to Education, acting as a liaison to schools in the state.

There is also an opportunity for the Teacher of the Year to attend the National Teacher of the Year Program Conference in Washington D.C. While at the conference the teacher may be recognized by the United States President and the current national Teacher of the Year.

Nomination forms are available on the Iowa Department of Education website at www.iowa.gov/educate.
