State Historical Society Offers Grants for the

Preservation of Historical Resources

Des Moines, Iowa – The State of Iowa’s Historical Resource Development Program (HRDP) is currently accepting grant applications for historic preservation, museum, and documentary collections projects.

“I am encouraging all communities and organizations in my district to help preserve our history and apply for these grants,” said State Representative Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids.  “The deadline for these grants is May 15^th and up to $100,000 is available for preservation projects that will educate the public on the significant history of Iowa.”

HRDP is funded by the Resource Enhancement and Protection Act (REAP), passed by the Iowa General Assembly in 1989. Through REAP, local government units, various organizations and private individuals can receive funding for eligible projects.

Applications are available at www.iowahistory.org and must be downloaded and sent to: Grants Manager, State Historical Society of Iowa, 600 E. Locust Street, Des Moines, Iowa, 50319 by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009.

Projects funded in this grant cycle will begin July 1, 2009 and must be completed by Nov. 30, 2011. Projects are evaluated based on the significance of the historical resource; the proposed scope of work; the project’s impact on the local community; and the degree to which the budget is reasonable, appropriate to the project, complete and mathematically correct.
