Without pretending to know all the intricacies of the state legislature and bill funneling, last week, with I.I reporter Jay Wagner as my guide, I went to Des Moines to mingle with legislators at the state capitol.  Among others, we talked to Rep. Tyler Olson, D-Cedar Rapids about H.F. 2212, the smoking ban bill.

Wagner asked Olson about his role as floor manager of the bill, subcommittee assignments, getting bills out of subcommittees (by majority vote) into a committee level vote and input from the public. Olson described it as "a very open process."
