State young adult commission to be named next month
By Carly Weber The Gazette
CEDAR RAPIDS — Gov. Chet Culver will announce the 15 members of the Generation Iowa Commission in mid-July, said the four under-30 Iowa legislators behind the commission while here Thursday.
Reps. Tyler Olson, D-Cedar Rapids, Andrew Wenthe, D-Hawkeye , Elesha Gayman, D-Davenport and McKinley Bailey, D-Webster City, were in town as part of a state tour challenging the future commissioners to follow through on the commission’s goal of making Iowa a destination for young adults and the businesses that hire them.
The tour included stops in Webster City on Wednesday and Cedar Rapids, Oelwein, Cedar Falls and Davenport on Thursday.
A record number of Iowans, more than 250, applied for a spot on the Generation Iowa Commission. The commission’s first report to the legislature will be in January.
