Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids urges citizens to nominate members of their community who have provided outstanding services to Iowans 60 and older during 2006.

“The Shining Star Awards provide an opportunity to recognize the very important contributions businesses, individuals and groups make toward improving the lives of senior citizens in their community.  ” Olson said.

Business, organizations and individuals qualify for the Shining Star Award.  These individuals or groups may have solved a problem, created opportunities, or encouraged an intergenerational partnership.  If this sounds like a person or group you know, nominate them for the Shining Star, to be presented at the 28^th Annual Governor’s Conference on Aging on May 22, 2007 in Des Moines.

To make a nomination for the Shining Star Awards, go to www.state.ia.us/elderaffairs and download the nomination materials.  Nominations must be postmarked by March 1.
