Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids today urged citizens to nominate outstanding members of their community for the 2007 Iowa Character Awards.

"The Character Counts program and the Iowa Character Awards are critical to creating and maintaining the qualities of outstanding citizenship that we prize. The awards serve to recognize Iowans who give back to their communities and serve as a positive role model for others," said Olson.

The Iowa Character Awards recognize citizens who exemplify the six pillars of character – trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship, as well as those who are active and engaged in their community and have demonstrated a commitment to making good decisions and doing the right thing.

"This is a great opportunity for us to honor our friends, neighbors, and co-workers," added Olson. "I encourage Iowans to take advantage of this opportunity to nominate persons of great character serving our communities and making our state a better place to live."

To nominate an outstanding member of your community, go to www.IowaCharacter.org and download the nomination materials. Nominations must be postmarked by Feb. 1.
