The 2008 legislative session is off to a quick start. We have already approved over $270 million in savings. These major re-organization pieces go a long way toward the total savings we must find to balance the budget and maintain our commitment to education, health care and job creation. We will continue to look for ways to make state government more efficient while delivering high-quality, cost-effective service.
Disaster recovery continues to be one of my top priorities. I am working hard to build on the approximately $500 million we secured last year. I also am working closely with local leaders to find policy solutions to lingering challenges.
